Dr. Jervis Yau | Santa Barbara Orthopedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist


Dr. Jervis Yau, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist serving the greater Santa Barbara, Goleta, Santa Maria and Ventura, California communities, has a specific interest in arthroscopic surgical techniques of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle joints, as well as joint preservation and cartilage restoration procedures.

Jervis Yau, MD is on the Membership Committee of Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA). He is also a proud member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Besides Dr. Yau’s active orthopedic practice at Ryu Hurvitz Orthopedic Clinic, he is a team physician for Cate School, Bishop Diego High School, Santa Barbara High School, Westmont College Intercollegiate Athletics and the University of California-Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Athletics. He is also a past team physician for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Bulls Hockey, as well as numerous other sports organizations. 

Jervis Yau, MD, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, graduated from the University of California, San Diego and completed his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at New York Medical College where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale University School of Medicine, followed by his sports medicine fellowship at Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR).

Dr. Yau proudly treats these common orthopedic injuries and sports injuries, as well as many others: rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, SC joint injuries, knee ligament injuries, meniscus tears, cartilage injuries, snapping hip syndrome, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), golfer’s elbow, tennis elbow, ankle instability and Achilles tendon ruptures.

Dr. Jervis Yau has a personal approach to patient care. From patients with simple acute orthopedic injuries that only require non-operative treatment to very complex injuries that may require minimally invasive surgery expertise; he takes the time to understand each patient’s unique circumstances in order to recommend the best treatment option.
